To work with the Head of Business Development in managing the development of new, profitable business in target markets and sectors in the field of electric drive systems.
Market Positioning
- Familiarising yourself with all products and services offered by our company.
- Pursuing new customers through direct contact and collaboration with the marketing department.
- Attending networking activities to research and connect with prospective customers.
- Understand company e-drive product offering including key selling points (KSP’s) and positioning relative to the competition. (NB suitable training and toolset will be provided for this requirement).
- Research emerging and existing sectors and territories to determine demand and strategic fit with company and sources of competitive advantage.
- Work with the Executives and Marketing Manager on strategic sales and marketing plans.
- Understand and at all times maintain appropriate margins, as defined by the Executive team.
- Initial presentation of the company offering across target markets/sectors. This may involve typically 5 days/month traveling abroad.
- To mentor and steer the Business Development team and raise the levels of appropriate skills and development in each role.
- To support the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) in the planning and forecasting of sales and margins for each product group.
- To regularly measure and monitor the performance metrics for the Business Development team.
- Coordinate marketing and business development activities (including trade shows, website & social media).
Stakeholder Relationships
- Maintaining meaningful relationships with existing customers to ensure Helix remains prominent in their future planning discussions.
- Become a highly visible, well-networked, “first point of contact” for new business prospects.
- Identify and build strong relationships with key decision makers and influencers within important strategic clients and key prospects.
- Maintain and document intelligence network including potential partners and manage information flow and timing expectations at all levels (internally and externally).
- Maintain effective CRM, strategic client communications and internal information flow to maximise business development continuity at all times.
- Maintain awareness and retain ownership of live projects and any key issues commensurate with the role.
- Brief internal stakeholders at all appropriate levels on a regular basis on potential business opportunities.
- Keep the Head of Business Development informed at all times of critical business development metrics in accordance with long-term strategic planning objectives.
- Balance your workload with other members of the Business Development team to ensure the best deployment of resources appropriate for ongoing customer dialogue.
Proposal Management
- Be commercially aware to a high level and demonstrate a good understanding of Helix’s commercial terms when negotiating with potential/existing customers.
- Identify / coordinate / prioritise specific leads and business opportunities including weekly metrics on sales funnel, participating in weekly business development coordination meetings and addressing and answering all required actions.
- Lead and coordinate proposal generation including inputs from engineers and managers using company templates.
- Coordinate activities (including technical and commercial support) required to convert proposals into contracts.
- Understand and identify key variables and component part/underlying commodity market price dynamics, ensuring that commercial terms protect the company against any volatility.
- Ensure commercial terms are appropriate for the type of customer/programme in accordance with the maintenance and protection of gross/net margins and/or Helix’s intellectual property and proprietary information.

Essential Qualities
- Ability to grasp key technical concepts (support/training provided).
- Good general business sense, commerciality, and market awareness.
- Projection of enthusiasm and confidence in company e-drive product including the ability to carry out high-level pitches both autonomously and as part of a project team.
- Strong numeracy and profit margin awareness alongside a good understanding of the volume-related costing, pricing and positioning of both a premium engineered product as well as a stock product within a high-growth market.
- Excellent, professional communication skills (clear and concise outward communication and ability to understand and summarise client perspectives back to the company).
- Ability to identify and overcome client barriers whilst maintaining acceptable business risk.
- Ability to forge strong internal networks for timely support and activity in business development.
